What Do I Say to Propose to My Girlfriend?

Asking your girlfriend to marry you is one of the most important milestones in your life. Knowing just what to say is tough, so here are some things you can say to propose to your girlfriend.
If you’ve been thinking about proposing to your girlfriend, you have probably been wondering to yourself “What do I say to propose to my girlfriend?” Not a trivial question, that one. After all, it is probably the biggest question you’ve ever had to ask, and while she may say “Yes!” no matter how you ask it, you probably want to do it just right. Here are some things you can say to propose to your girlfriend. You’ll probably know weather or not any of these are the right proposals for her.
These are assuming you’ve done all the right things leading up to actually uttering the words to your sweetie. Just the basics, such as making sure she’s really “the one”, and that sort of thing. If she truly loves you as much as you love her and is ready to get married, she’s going to say yes, no matter what. That being the case, you should still strive for the absolute perfect proposal, right down to what you say.
Make sure you take her personality into account when you’re popping the question. This is especially true when you’re planning the overall proposal, such as where to propose to her and the event or setting that you’ll ask her. For example if she’s easily embarrassed, don’t propose in a setting that could put her in an uncomfortable position. Making the proposal just for her also extends to the actual words you’ll use when you ask. Ask her in a way that would mean the most to her.
Use strong words when proposing. Don’t use words unless they convey complete commitment in what you’re doing. Phrases such as “I believe”, “I think”, and “I want” are all in the category you should avoid.
It is extremely emotional and a scary time for most men. It is all to easy to rush through your proposal. Make sure you speak slowly and clearly, but with commitment. It is a good idea to practice a few dozen times before you do the real thing, just to be sure it comes out just as you want.
A proposal is all about romance. Most women are extremely romantic, especially regarding situations such as this. Even if you’re not the “romantic type”, now is the time to pour on the romance. Leave the witty comments for another time.
Here are some great ways to ask her to marry you. Personalize these proposals with some exact details about your first meeting and/or your relationship together.
Example Proposals
Proposal 1)
I fell in love with you the first moment I laid eyes on you. I can’t imagine living even another second without you. I want to share every moment of my life with you, I will take care of you, and give you my full support, no matter what may happen. Please do me the honor of becoming my wife.
Proposal 2)
I love you so much. I promise to never leave you alone, and to be with you for your entire life, through good times and bad. I’ll always be there for you, and give of myself whatever I must in order to make you happy, and keep you safe. I’ll love you forever. Will you marry me?
Proposal 3)
My dear, you are without a doubt, the best thing that has ever happened to me. You enrich my life in ways I could have never imagined before I met you. A life without you would not be complete. I will always be there for you. I’ll catch when you stumble, protect you when you’re scared, and hold you when you’re feeling down. You can always count on me. I’ll always give you unconditional love. Will you marry me?
Proposal 4)
I love you so much. When I met you I could not have imagined what our relationship would evolve into, or how much you could mean to me, although from the second I met you I knew that you were very special. Now I know how very special you really are and am so in love with you. You’ve taken me to a place that I couldn’t have believed possible. Let’s continue this forever, building the perfect life, and growing old together. I’ll be your knight in shining armor, there to protect you from all that life can throw at you. Be my wife, and give me the privilege of being your husband, always and forever.
These are just a few examples of what to say when you propose. You can always just the old standby. Get down on one knee, take her hand and look longingly onto her eyes. Say “My dear, I love you so much, and can not imagine living the rest of my life without you. You are the perfect woman for me. I love that ( list qualities about her that you love). Will you marry me?
In most cases you should stay away from the funny or witty, unless it is the foundation of your relationship. Most women want to be swept off their feet when you propose marriage and pithy comments just don’t do it.
No matter what you say, make sure it is from the heart. The most important thing is sincerity. Remember to practice your proposal at least a few times before you drop to one knee. Unless you are the paragon of control, you’ll be nervous as all get out, so the practice will help you deliver your proposal in a slow controlled manner, without stumbling through your words.
A couple of years ago an acclaimed relationship expert, who has appeared dozens of times on the news and TV programs (he was even called Oprah’s relationship expert) and has written several books, held a contest to find the best proposal. There were over 7,000 entries. He carefully evaluated these 7,000 proposals, and finally came up with the 101 absolute best proposals. If you’re looking to find out exactly how to propose and what to say when you do, you should check out the report he developed from the contest. Find out more here.
Good luck with your proposal….
